More Pictures From The Slacker

Here are a few more pictures from the Project 365 set. I wish I could post everyday but time isn't always on my side. I've been moving this week and other than posting the pictures to the group I haven't really worried about the blog. My goal is to post at least once a week so I'm still on track with that. I will try to do more and hopefully even write a few posts that aren't from the photo project. Anywho here are the pictures.

Project 365 (18/365)

This is my friend, we shall call him "The Professor". The favorite part of my night is after we close down the coffee shop, we hang out outside and talk about movies, books, and various other interesting topics. The professor always has a kind word, respects my opinion, and listens as much as he speaks. He really puts me in a good mood before I have to go into work, and I will miss not getting to interact with him as much now that I have moved to Cornelius.

Project 365 (19/365)

This is the first picture of my year long project not to cut my hair or shave. I hope I can make it. The only thing that would really cause a problem is if I have to find a job. Wish me luck!

Project 365 (20/365)

I was trying to get a picture of Jessica in her bath robe just for fun. Andy had a better apparently had a better idea. I think Andy's hands look unusually large in this picture. It makes me laugh every time I look at it.

Project 365 (21/365)

This is Jessica's "stupid" cat Bear. He was actually cleaning himself, but the timing of the photo makes it look like he is sleeping all cutesy like a human person.

Project 365 (22/365)

No explanation for this one really. I was at work and this blade sever was open and out of the rack so I took a picture.

I'm Back

Well it's been a few days, but I'm back from my vacation, and I'm quite frustrated. I took two days off work to move into the new house. This did not get accomplished. We had plans to move on Wednesday, but it rained the entire day. I did get rid of a lot of stuff so I guess that's one positive thing. The move has been rescheduled for Sunday. I don't know what I will do if I don't get moved Sunday. I did however keep up with the Project 365 pictures so here they are.

Normal Life in Black and White

I have always found it fascinating how any picture that would normally be in color is transformed when taken in black and white. It's like an instant addition of class and beauty is added to any situation. This seems totally backwards to me. It stands to reason when the color is taken away from something it would become drab and lifeless, but with film this is massively untrue. Of course I'm sure had The Wizard of OZ started out in color and then switched to black and white after the tornado it would be utterly ridiculous, but the other ninety-nine percent of the time I find this to be the case. I almost think this is one of those things that is lost in the digital world, to me anyway. I know you can easily take the color out of a picture or even shoot in black and white, but with film you have to be more adventurous and pick a roll of either color or black and white. I don't really like to use photo manipulation software, I feel like what you take is what you get. So the next time you go out to take some pictures, no matter the situation, set you camera to black and white and see what you come out with. Trust me you will be happy with the results!

Spinning

Here is today's picture. I got dizzy making this one. I took it by spinning myself around in my office chair. This would have been fine normally, but I had to do it several times to get it right. It's amazing to me how difficult it is to hold a proper facial expression while spinning around in an office chair. Hope you like it!

Fajitas With Friends

Last night I was invited to a friend's house for fajitas. This was great because it was one of my friends from Borders. I don't really get to hang out with any of the Border's crew too often. One of the main reasons I took the job at Border's was to make some new friends. My full time job is third shift and I work alone. I really only know about eight people out of the one hundred and fifty or so that work there. I used to work at Books-A-Million and most of us there hung out together all the time. That's what I was looking for at Borders, but I just don't think it's going to happen. It's looking like most of the guys at Borders don't spend much time with each other outside of work. I'm still making some quality friends so that's a positive. I was just hoping for more of a group thing. Friends are friends regardless, and I'll take all that with have me. Anyhoozle here is today's picture.

Two For One

Well, as you probably noticed I get slack on the weekends keeping up with this blog thing. I did not, however, get slack with the Project 365 photos. Sunday Jason, Matt, and I went hiking at Crowder's mountain. This was billed as a beginner's hike. That was a total lie! I guess it is probably an intermediate hike, but when you are a smoker and haven't regularly worked out in over a year, it feels more like an extreme expert hike. It starts off pleasant enough with a slight incline and beautiful scenery. While the scenery remained beautiful the incline increases drastically. It's basically like walking up the side of a banked race track for a mile. Then to add a slight degree of difficulty there are three hundred stair steps at the end before you reach the peak. As if my legs weren't tired enough now I have to climb stairs? After all that torture and turmoil, when we finally got to the top it was totally worth it. I don't think I've ever seen a more amazing view in North Carolina. After this experience, I am jacked to go out and see what more my home state has to offer.

The second picture today was sort of a redo of a picture I took earlier last week of Sarah. I really enjoy taking candid shots of people. I also like to be very sneaky. Anyway I took a picture of Sarah and posted it on my facebook with a caption about her not looking very happy that I had snapped the photo. The next day she commented the photo with a very sarcastic "thanks a lot". So I was at it again tonight with the sneaky picture taking when she came outside. I tried to snap off a quick shot after she locked the door at Jackson's. I was caught, but I did get a fantastic shot before almost being attacked.

Nothing to Say Today

Well I have nothing at all to say today so I'll just post today's photo and get out of your hair. Here you go.

In the Bathroom From the Dark

So I fell asleep at work tonight, not that that is so unusual, and when I woke up I realized I had not taken any pictures today. I grabbed my camera from my pack and turned it on. Wouldn't you know it, the battery is almost flat, and of course the charger is at the house. I turned it back off to think for a minute about what to shoot. I remember looking through some photos last night and seeing one where a guy covered the flash and took a photo in the mirror in darkness. It looked awesome, so I went for it. I headed for the bathroom and flipped off the light. After picking myself off the floor, man it's dark in there, I took a ton of pictures. It took me a bit to get it right, but I think it turned out pretty well.

I guess this is kind of a continuation of yesterday's blog. Both photo's are a copy of someone else's idea and I feel OK about that now. I realized today that though these are not my ideas I did have to be creative to produce them. Every time you I use someone's idea I have to work out how it was done, you know like that Ben Affleck movie Paycheck. What I'm trying to say is anytime I use someone else's idea it becomes a learning experience, and that's never a bad thing. I hope I am finding the positive in the situation and not just trying to justify my thievery.

Resistance is futile (4/365)

I was stumbling on the internet last night and came across an article with a similar picture. I really liked the picture so I decided to steal the idea. I have to say I thought this was going to be easy, nay nay my friend, to get this shot I had to take about thirty pictures. Not that that is a terrible thing by any means. It was tons of fun and really made the finished product a lot more worthwhile. After doing this one I really would like to do more. I would prefer to come up with my own ideas of course, but I will gladly use other peoples ideas just for the experience.

I want to be more creative. How does that work though? Can one actually become creative, or do you have to be born with it? Maybe over the next year I will find out (Maybe it's Maybelline). Maybe after months of stealing other people's ideas, I will learn to develop my own. I hope by looking through the eyes of other, my eyes will adjust and pick up the ability to see all of the possibilities in my surroundings. I hope to be able to take any situation and create some type of perfect scenario to be framed and captured in time. I guess what I'm saying is I want to be the MacGyver of compostion.

Time to Organize my Mess

I was wandering around the apartment today taking some pictures and it finally sunk in. I really need to organize and get rid of some stuff. I have to move in about two weeks and I feel overwhelmed. I have way too much stuff that I just don't use. Today's picture is a small illustration of all the junk that I have. I would say at least half, probably more like two thirds, of this stuff hasn't been touch since the day I moved in. It's a daunting task but I have to do something about it. I've said before that things need to change in my life and I think just being more of a minimalist will help a lot. It's time to move on to bigger and better things and stop collecting useless things.

Day 2 Project 365

Well, I have made it two days in a row. Things are going superb with the project so far. I did have to take today's photo with my cell phone, but I think that makes things a little more fun and random. The only bad thing about using the phone is the resolution really, but I'd say for most thins it's fine. I would like to carry my camera with me all the time, for it is rather small and portable, but I still can't bring myself to whip it out anywhere the mood strikes me. I don't know why I get so self-conscious when I break out the camera in a public place if I'm not "supposed" to be taking pictures. That is something else I will have to work on.
Back to the topic of today's photo. I took this picture at work (the part-time gig) after spending two hours reorganizing the travel section. We have some type of corporate visit this week so they of course focus mainly on appearance and nothing else gets done, but that's an entirely different subject. We have a new way of facing out books within their section. If you look at the picture going left to right and break the books into three segments, the first segment would be the old way to faceout and the next two are the new way. This new way is called a super faceout. I find it quite ridiculous and it tends to take up valuable real estate on the shelves. As you can see there were an abundance of this particular title, which I do own myself, just so you know. With this high quantity of books I made what I like to call the "super awesome uber" faceout. I think it turned out very nice. I think what I like most is the fact that it ended up right under the World Travel section marker. Also, as Jason pointed out earlier this evening, it looks like an AT&T add, you know, "more bars in more places". So anyway, that's the picture for today. Hope everyone has a wonderful day and thanks for reading.

New Beginnings

After recent events I have decided I need to make a few changes in my life. I don't want to dive right in and try and change everything at once, but over the next year I would like to take a few steps toward becoming a better person and enjoying life more. The past week has really caused me to reflect. While I do not like to live in the past, nor do I regret anything I have ever done, I love to relive the happy times. I have found, as I'm sure you have all figured out for yourselves, pictures are one of the best ways to bring up a fond memory.
I spend quit a lot of time on the website www.flikr.com look at pictures and see what other people do with their lives. I had a flikr account but I never really used it. Tonight while going through pictures I came across a group called Project 365. The premise behind the group is to post one picture a day in the hopes that at the end of the year you can look back and remember how your year went. I signed up for a pro account today so I can post as many pictures as I can take. I will also be participating in the Project 365. Along with posting to the group I will also do my best to post the pictures for the project here on live journal as well. I hope this will be an ideal way to keep up with what's going on in my life, at least for me. So this is photo number one, I hope to hear all of your comments and if anyone cares to join the project here is their group page.

Book to Movie

A Clockwork Orange:
Book vs. Movie

OK, so in the course of the last four days I have read A Clockwork Orange  by Anthony Burgess, and watched the Stanley Kubrick movie based on this book.  I bought the book over a year ago because it had the twenty-first chapter that was missing from the original American release. Apparently the American company that first published this book in the states cut the twenty-first chapter for no other reason than to make the book shorter. I had always hear that this chapter gave a totally different outlook for the end of this story. And O' my brothers, it did.

After reading to chapter six of the third section of A Clockwork Orange I paused for a few minutes just to get a idea of what it was like to read the original version. Then after I soaked it in all nice and deep, I moved on to read the intended ending. All I could think was: "Wow! Did the American publisher even read this book." I can't image taking a part of something that made the world seem right and just erasing it. How could he do some so cruel, not only to the reader, but even more so to the author? This veck should have a swift tolchok right in his rot!

Next I decided to watch the movie again, now that I had the book fresh in my head. Stanley Kubrick, one of America's greatest film makers, adapted this American release to the big screen. I must say I do appreciate the movie a lot more after reading the book. I also have to wonder why he didn't use the original British printing. I mean he filmed the movie in England, he had to know that it was missing a chapter. I guess, by using his other works as reference, he didn't really want the world to seem right. No semi positive outlook's with this guy. I guess he was just a malinky bit bezoomny!

All in all I would say the adaptation from book to movie was done quite well. My only complaint, other than the careless discard of the original ending, was the loss of A Clockwork Orange. What I mean is the writer that lived in the house by the name of HOME, F. Alexander, wrote a book called A Clockwork Orange. This book was about his belief that government was trying to turn people into machines to make the world run more smoothly. This obviously comes into play again towards the end of the story when he runs back into F. Alexander. I just think it would have added more gravitas to the end of the film. Well, my brother, I'm off to peet a nice mug of warm chai with lots of moloko. Thank you for your time, see you on the flip!
