Normal Life in Black and White

I have always found it fascinating how any picture that would normally be in color is transformed when taken in black and white. It's like an instant addition of class and beauty is added to any situation. This seems totally backwards to me. It stands to reason when the color is taken away from something it would become drab and lifeless, but with film this is massively untrue. Of course I'm sure had The Wizard of OZ started out in color and then switched to black and white after the tornado it would be utterly ridiculous, but the other ninety-nine percent of the time I find this to be the case. I almost think this is one of those things that is lost in the digital world, to me anyway. I know you can easily take the color out of a picture or even shoot in black and white, but with film you have to be more adventurous and pick a roll of either color or black and white. I don't really like to use photo manipulation software, I feel like what you take is what you get. So the next time you go out to take some pictures, no matter the situation, set you camera to black and white and see what you come out with. Trust me you will be happy with the results!
